Papers, 1676–1874, ca. 3 ft., 2,050 items. Includes a diary of Ralph Isaacs Ingersoll (1789–1872), 16 November 1846–30 May 1848, written on his diplomatic mission to Russia. He was U.S. minister there in 1847–48. The diary recounts his stopover in Paris on the way to St. Petersburg and his reception by Nicholas I, and contains accounts of expenditures to be reimbursed by the U.S. government.
