13 linear feet (25 boxes). Mrs. Callarman was in possession of 2 items pertaining to the life of her great-grandfather, Joseph Kirk (1818–89), an American civil engineer who went to Russia ca. 1843 to set up machinery for spinning hemp and who helped construct the St. Petersburg-Moscow railroad with George Washington whistler. The items are a Russian passport to Kirk and his family, dated 1849, and the wedding certificate of Kirk and Charlotte Elizabeth Meyer, 1844, signed by the German Lutheran minister in St. Petersburg. Mrs. Callarman also has some genealogical data on the Kirk and related families in the U.S. Finding aid available: http://archives.nypl.org/lhg/21996#overview
