2,527 linear feet. Archives of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) which document the history of the most significant labor union representing workers in the women's garment industry in the United States and Canada. The archives hold ca. 500 ft. of materials relating to the Union and its activities, including correspondence, minutes of meetings, reports, and financial records. Perhaps 5 ft. of material relate to the Russian Empire and Soviet Union. Many members of this Union, established in 1900, were emigres from Eastern Europe and the Russian Empire. Their interest in radical movements, socialism, and communism is reflected in these archival holdings. Some letters, post-1919, are from individuals in the Soviet Union to Union officers. Materials concern ideological questions, particularly communist influence in trade unions like the ILGWU, much more than conditions in Russia/ USSR. Letters of recommendation or similar credentials requested. Finding aid available: http://rmc.library.cornell.edu/EAD/htmldocs/KCL05780.html
