Papers, ca. 1940–65, 20 ft. "Anti-communist" Republican congressman from Wisconsin's 5th District. Kersten served in the 80th, 82nd, and 83rd Congresses, 1947–48, 1951–54. Author of the Kersten Amendment to "support resistance behind the Iron Curtain," he chaired a Congressional Committee to Investigate Communism in American Labor and Industry. In 1953 he became chairman of the House Select Committee on Communist Aggression. He was a White House consultant on foreign affairs in 1955–56. About 3 ft. of records (correspondence, reports, photographs, and other documents) relate to the USSR and its military and political domination of Eastern Europe. Much is secondary material or printed matter. Some of the items are restricted, though most of the Russian-related holdings are not. Collection in process.
