• Alexandra L. Tolstoi (b. 1884)

  Daughter of Leo Tolstoi/Tolstoy and head of the Tolstoy Foundation in New York. Letter, 1939, to Mrs. Maud Howe Elliott concerning the Tolstoy Foundation.

• Harry Lyman Koopman (1860-1937)

  Papers, ca. 1890–1940 and in process, ca. 30,000 items. Literary scholar and librarian at Brown University. Includes correspondence from at least 1 individual who, as a St. Petersburg resident in 1902–13, was an eyewitness to the Revolution of 1905. Preliminary inventory.

• Henry Wheaton (1785-1848)

  Papers, 1786–1899, ca. 275 items. U.S. charge d'affaires in Denmark and minister to Prussia. Correspondence concerning diplomatic matters pertains in part to Russia.

• John Brooks Wheelwright (1897-1940)

  Papers, ca. 1920–40, over 15,000 items. American poet and socialist. Contains several hundred manuscripts dealing with socialism and with his association with the Socialist Workers Party. Preliminary inventory (NUCMC 73–59).

• John Milton Hay (1838-1905)

  Papers, 1856–1905, ca. 10,500 items. Secretary of state, 1898–1905, and ambassador to England, 1897–98, also held diplomatic posts in Paris, Vienna, and Madrid, 1865–98. Some of his papers, which include personal letterpress copy books reflecting his diplomatic service, pertain to Russian affairs. (NUCMC 60–2193 and 78–82)

• Jonathan Russell (1771-1832)

  Papers, 1795–1832, 7,000 items. Merchant, Massachusetts congressman, charge d'affaires at Paris, 1810, minister to Sweden and Norway, and member of the U.S. commission to draw up the Treaty of Ghent, 1814–18. Includes several hundred letters from Russell to Secretary of State James Monroe concerning commercial and diplomatic relations between the United States and Europe, the War of 1812, and the Treaty of Ghent. There are also letters from John Quincy Adams when he was minister to Russia, 1809–14, and correspondence from William David Lewis, 1792–1881, an American merchant in Russia in the 1810s, who sent Russell his translation into Russian of "Yankee Doodle." • Sergei Khrushchev

  Papers, (ca 1950-). 115 linear feet. English, Russian. Materials donated by Dr. Sergei Khrushchev, Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute for International Studies, relating to his father and himself. The Nikita Khrushchev materials include transcripts of dictated reminiscences, edited by Sergei Khrushchev and later published; photograph albums of official visits both within and outside the Soviet Union; and a pair of shoes similar to the one made famous at the United Nations. In addition there are various books, articles, clippings, taped interviews, and various documents pertaining to his role as author and public speaker, both about his father and also about his own circumstances in becoming a naturalized American citizen. • The Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection

  The Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection is the foremost American collection of material devoted to the history and iconography of soldiers and soldiering, and is one of the world's largest collections devoted to the study of military and naval uniforms. It was formed over a period of forty years by the late Mrs. John Nicholas Brown (1906-1985) of Providence and is still growing.

• Thomas J. Watson, Jr.

  Papers, 1905-1994 (bulk 1940-1981). 24 linear feet (24 record center boxes). Consists of correspondence, speeches, diaries, daybooks, manuscripts, ships' logs, military records, reports, printed material, photographs, and clippings that document the life of Thomas J. Watson, Jr. About 25% of the collection consists of files from Watson's term as Ambassodor to the Soviet Union and about 15% of the collection consists of speeches. There is a dearth of material about I.B.M. The bulk of the I.B.M. series consists of letters written to Watson when he announced his retirement from the company.
