This organization, which assists Jews who seek to emigrate from the USSR, has records and documentation on ca. 1,500 refuseniks, Soviet Jews who have not obtained permission to emigrate. The material, from the late 1960s to the present, includes personal correspondence, reports, films, photographs, and a card file of all refuseniks known to the organization. The Bay Area Council is a member of the Union of Councils for Soviet Jews, a national organization composed of 24 groups throughout the United States.
