Notes

This institute was established in 1932 by Dr. Holland C. Roberts to promote cultural exchange and to improve relations between the United States and the Soviet Union. Some 500,000 letters, 20–30 ft. of personal and business correspondence, reflect the Institute's interest in the preceding subjects as well as its work with international peace movements. Its contacts in the USSR include the Soviet Peace Committee in Moscow, other committees in the 15 republics, the Novosti press agency, Pioneer, and the Helsinki World Peace Council. Cultural exchange materials cover tours and tour arrangements for Soviet delegations, both of organizations and of individual citizens. The Institute also screens classical and modern full-length feature films on Soviet life. Permission of the Executive President (currently Sonia B. Kaross) required.
