• Alexander Robert Lawton (1818-1896)

  Lawton Family papers, 1774–1952, 2 ft. President of the American Bar Association. Although he had served as minister to Austria-Hungary, he was ruled ineligible for an appointment to the U.S. mission in Russia. Documentation is in correspondence of 1884–85. (NUCMC 64–544) (No. 415)

• Duff Green (1791-1875)

  Papers, 1810–1902, 9 ft. (reproduced on 25 reels of microfilm). Journalist, politician, and industrial promoter. Undated business papers mention speculation on the St. Petersburg-Moscow railroad line and American investment possibilities in Russia. (NUCMC 68–808) (Nos. 993 and M-993)

• Gwyn Family

  Papers, 1779–1938, 720 items. Papers of James Gwyn include a letter, 1837, from his friend M. S. Stokes, in the U.S. Navy, visiting St. Petersburg. Stokes relates how the tsar boarded his ship incognito; he also speaks in detail of the court and the city. (NUCMC 64–512) (No. 298) Note: A typed copy of this letter is in the Gordon-Hackett Family Papers (No. 1040).

• James Kimbrough Jones (1839-1908)

  Papers, 1900–21, 103 ft. U.S. senator from Arkansas. Attorney for Oklahoma oil developers at one time. He received letters, 1906, concerning Russian oil competition and the consulship at Batoum (Batum). (NUCMC 64–1036) (No. 387)

• London Family

  Papers, 1776–1933, 305 items. On microfilm only are typed copies of letters sent to the family from J. Carson Breckenridge, son of the U.S. minister to Russia, 1894–95. (NUCMC 64–552) (Nos. 2442 and M-2446)

• Lyman Atkinson Cotten (1874-1926)

  Papers, 1886–1947, 7,500 items. Naval officer. Correspondence contains a few references to Russian affairs, 1920. (NUCMC 64–988) (No. 182)

• Morris Randolph Mitchell (1895-1976)

  Educator and world traveler. Copies of 3 letters to his sister-in-law from her friend in Russia, 1922. The friend describes Moscow and also relief work in the Volga region. (NUCMC 77–595) (No. 3832)

• Phillips Family

  Papers, 1804–1928, 1,400 items. In 1886–94 the family received many letters from George Kennan, the Russian expert and Siberian explorer. In addition, W. H. Phillips (1853–1897) received 3 detailed letters from Supreme Court Associate Justice John M. Harlan about his work as arbitrator on the Bering Sea Commission in 1893. (NUCMC 64–613) (No. 596)

• Pickens Family

  Papers, 1800–89, ca. 160 items. Francis Wilkinson Pickens (1805–1869) was U.S. minister to Russia in 1858–60. His correspondence, 1859–60, contains information about his service and Russian-American diplomatic relations. (NUCMC 64–615) (No. 1492) 11 Robert Crooke Wood (1832–1900). Papers, 1807–1910, 2 ft. Includes a letter from H. B. Trist to a friend describing the visit of his uncle, Tom Cottman, to Russia in 1854 and his uncle's interview with Prince Doljarouki (Dolgorukii).
