The Museum has a black and white watercolor or wash drawing by Frederic Remington (1861–1909) entitled "The Frontier Guard and the Custom House." The scene depicts the forced departure from Russia, 1892, of Remington and his traveling companion Poultney Bigelow, a writer. Bigelow apparently aroused suspicions by making too many sketches and taking too many notes about Russia for the series of articles he and Remington published in Harper's magazines, 1893–97. Any use or reproduction of the painting requires the written permission of the Museum's Board of Trustees.
