• The Council's archives contain correspondence, reports, memoranda, digests of meetings, and other materials pertaining to Russia from the 1920s on, and especially after World War II. Most of the material concerns foreign policy and international affairs. The archives are divided into 3 sections:

• Records of Conferences

  4 vols., 1933–53. Contains no materials pertaining to Russia. Restrictions: By resolution of the Council's Board of Directors, adopted 17 December 1974, all substantive records of the Council more than 25 years old are open for reference use during library hours at the Harold Pratt House, subject to the proviso that: "As a condition of use, the officers of the Council shall require each user of Council records to execute a prior written commitment that he or she will not directly or indirectly attribute to any living person any assertion of fact or opinion based upon any Council record without first obtaining from such person his written consent thereto." Each summer an additional year of records is opened for research under the guidelines stated above.

• Records of Groups

  45 vols., 1922–53. Includes material relating to study groups on Russia each year since 1944. Materials can also be found in groups primarily devoted to other subjects.

• Records of Meetings

  18 vols., 1920–53. Each volume, loose-leaf binder, contains ca. 500–600 pieces of paper. Includes material relating specifically to Russia each year from 1926 to 1933 and from 1943 on, by at least one speaker every year. References to Russia also appear in speeches on other countries and on various issue areas.
