• Agnes M. Diterichs

  Papers, 1919-1922. 1 manuscript box (0.4 linear feet). These papers contain the detailed investigative report of the assassination of the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II, and his family. The report was prepared by Nikolai Alekseevich Sokolov, and includes the typescript of “Dielo ob ubiestvie tsarskoi sem’i v Ekaterinburgie,” and related documents, including correspondence, illustrations, and minutes. • Aleksandr Kallinikovich Svitich (1890-1963)

  Papers, 1921-1965. 2 manuscript boxes, (0.8 linear feet). These papers provide insight into the life of the Orthodox Church in Poland in the Interwar period. Aleksander K. Svitich, a theologian and member of the faculty of the Vilna [Vilnius, Vilno] Theological Seminary, served on the editorial board of Za svobodu, a Russian émigré newspapers, to which he contributed numerous articles, at times using his pen name Tuberozov. • Archbishop Apollinarii (Koshevoi) (1874-1933)

  Papers, 1874-1935. These papers reflect the ecclesiastical career path of Archbishop Apollinarii (Koshevoi), beginning with his educational formation in pre-Revolutionary Russia to emigration, first in Serbia, then Jerusalem, Palestine, and, finally, as Archbishop of North America and Canada. His assignments, both in Jerusalem and North America, coincided with difficult jurisdictional controversies, especially on the North American continent. His CORRESPONDENCE reveals a lively exchange with both clergy and parishioners in the U.S. and Canada, and includes directives, ukazy, and ecclesiastical documents forwarded to him from the ecclesiastical administration of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia in Belgrade, Serbia. • Archimandrite Amvrosii (Konovalov) (1890-1971)

  Papers, 1920-1977. 6 manuscript boxes. This collection contains the papers of Viktor Andreevich Konovalov, a self-proclaimed missionary of Canada in emigration, and later a Russian Orthodox monk and abbot of the Pokrov Skete in Bluffton, Alberta, Canada. Konovalov’s rich CORRESPONDENCE includes letters to and from prominent hierarchs of the Russian diaspora, located throughout the world, and provides a significant source for information on Russian Orthodoxy in North America in the Interwar years as well as in the immediate aftermath of World War II. In addition, Konovalov’s papers present a valuable record of the functioning and economic struggles of the Pokrov Skete in Alberta, Canada.
  
  The SPEECHES AND WRITINGS file reflects the personal interests of Fr. Amvrosii, which included eschatological research as well as studies of holy fathers and church history. • Archimandrite Polikarp (Gorbunov)

  Papers, 1917-1958. 1 oversize box (.16 linear feet). These papers contain the personal papers of Archimandrite Polikarp (Gorbunov). After the Russian Revolution, Archimandrite Polikarp found himself in Harbin, China, where he was closely associated with Metropolitan Meletii (Zaborovskii), and was assigned as rector of the Annunciation cathedral. After fleeing from Harbin, Archimandrite Polikarp relocated to Hong Kong, and finally emigrated to the U.S.A., where he entered Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, N.Y. • Constantine L. Zakhartchenko (1900-1987)

  Papers, 1915-1989. 38 manuscript boxes (15.8 linear feet). These papers contain the personal documents and correspondence of Constantine L’vovich Zakhartchenko, a Russian émigré and aeronautical engineer. In the course of his engineering career, Zakhartchenko was involved with the design and development of numerous aircraft, aircraft components, and missiles, including the jet engine afterburner, the McDonnell ZHJD-1 twin-engine helicopter, and ZAUM-N-Z cruise missile. • Elena Iur’evna Iavorskaia

These papers contain the family files of Elena Iur’evna Iavorskaia, a Russian émigré, who lived in Switzerland after the Russian revolution, and include educational documents, genealogical files, and various certificates. • Georgii P. Larin

  Papers, 1922-1975. 3 manuscript boxes, 1 oversize box, (1.4 linear feet). These papers contain the correspondence of Georgii Pavlovich Larin, a Russian émigré and Cossack, who was active in China, and later emigrated to Australia. Included are various materials relating to the activities of the Bratstvo russkoi pravdy in China, a Russian émigré anti-communist secret society, such as correspondence, circulars, orders, reports, and printed matter. Of interest are also documents relating to the Russkoe obshchestvo vzaimnogo kredita (Russian Mutual Credit Corporation), on whose board of trustees Larin served from 1933 to 1943. • Holy Trinity Seminary Manuscript Collection

  Collection, 1916-1961. This collection contains individual holographs and typescripts (with occasional associated correspondence) donated to Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary. The majority of these materials are in Russian, and include previously unpublished memoirs, historical essays and poetry. Among the authors are veterans of the White Army, whose memoirs focus, among other topics, on Imperial Russia, the revolution of 1917, the Russian Civil War, and émigré existence.
  
  Among the manuscripts relating to the Russian Army in the First World War are V. Granberg, “27-aia pekhotnaia diviziia v boiu pod Stallupenenom i v srazhenii pod Gumbinenom,” and Georgii Ottonovich Raukh, “2-aia gvardeiskaia kavaleriiskaia diviziia v Vostochnoi Prussii 23 iiunia – 7 sentiabria 1914 goda.” The third volume of the memoirs of Prince Nikolai Zhevakhov, former assistant ober-prokuror of the Holy Synod, concerning his life and activities in emigration, are a continuation of two previously published volumes of memoirs covering the period 1915-1917. • Ivan Alekseevich Poliakov (1886-1969)

  Papers, 1942-1969. 28 manuscript boxes (11.6 linear feet). These papers contain the correspondence, and writings of Ivan Alekseevich Poliakov, participant in the Don Cossack uprising of 1918, and ataman of the Don Cossacks in emigration since 1947. The Correspondence file includes detailed correspondence with leading Russian émigré military and social leaders, and provides a rich source of information on the activities of Cossack activities in the diaspora.
  
  Poliakov’s Speeches and writings include the typescript of Donskie kazaki v bor’be s bol’shevikami, as well as related correspondence and reviews. In addition, several articles, notes, speeches, and materials relating to Poliakov’s monograph Krasnov-Vlasov: vospominaniia are included.
  
  The Subject file includes materials on the history of the Don and Kuban Cossacks, the Russkii obshche-voinskii soiuz, and General A. A. Vlasov. • Ivan Mikhailovich Andreev (Andreevskii) (1894-1976)

  Papers, 1944-1998. These papers contain the correspondence and some writings of Ivan Mikhailovich Andreevskii (pen-name: I. M. Andreev), a prominent writer in the Russian emigration in the U.S., and formerly interred in the Solovetsk concentration camp from 1927-1932. In emigration, Andreevskii settled in the U.S., teaching various subjects at Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary and editing several publications. These papers reflect only a fragment of Andreevskii’s activities and writings. Among his SPEECHES AND WRITINGS, included in this collection, are writings on pedagogy and psychology, as well as catacomb Orthodox communities in the U.S.S.R. • Konstantin Nikolaevich Nikolaev (1884-1965)

  Papers, 1930-1964. 3 manuscript boxes. These papers provide insight into the life of the Orthodox Church in Poland in the Interwar period, where Konstantin Nikolaev served as legal advisor to the Orthodox Church in Poland, until he was forced into exile to Yugoslavia, where he continued to be active in the offices of Patriarch Varnava and Metropolitan Anastasii. Nikolaev was a defender of human rights, especially in regards to the Russian émigrés, which is reflected in this collection, particularly in the SUBJECT FILE in the papers of the Union of Russian Jurists. • Konstantin Stavrovich Cherkassov (Lagoridov) (b. 1921)

  These papers contain Konstantin Stavrovich Cherkassov’s novel “Mezhdu dvukh ognei” in manuscript form. As a former member of General Andrei Vlasov’s Rossiiskaia osvoboditel’naia armiia, Cherkassov wrote this work of historical fiction drawing on facts experienced first-hand. Cherkassov was born Lagoridov, but adopted his new name after World War II. He was a captain in the 5th Cossack Division under the command of General Ivan Kononov, and later served as reconnaissance officer. After World War II, Cherkassov first assumed the last name Dulshers. Cherkassov lived in a displaced persons camp in Parsch, Austria, until 1949, when he emigrated to Australia, where he worked as a gardener. Included are his letters to Archbishop Laurus, to whom he submitted his manuscript for consideration for publication by Holy Trinity Monastery’s printshop of St. Job of Pochaev. • Natal’ia A. Logunova

  Papers, 1930-1972. These papers contain the correspondence and writings of Natal’ia Logunova, a Russian journalist and writer, who emigrated to the United States, and also used the pen-names Nataliia Snarskaia, Nikolai Tallin, and NETLI. Logunova’s CORRESPONDENCE includes letters to publishers and writers. Among her SPEECHES AND WRITINGS are two published novels, Irina and Olen’ka Bell, as well as numerous articles, unpublished novels, plays, and short stories. A recurring theme in her writings is the fate of Russian émigrés, particular in the Displaced Persons camps. • Nikolai Dmitrievich Talberg (1886-1967)

  Papers, 1927-1967. 18 manuscript boxes. These papers reflect the writings and research interests of Nikolai Talberg, a government official in pre-Revolutionary Russia and historian, writer, and professor in emigration. Among his writings are works related to late 19th and early 20th century history, partially based on his own reminiscences and those of others. • Nina Shiriaeva

  Papers. These papers contain the typescript of Nina Shiraeva’s undated and unpublished novel “Inna Karintseva. Povest’”, donated to the archives of Holy Trinity Seminary in 1985. • Ob”edinenie Chinov Kornilovskogo Udarnogo Polka

  Papers, 1917-1980. 2 manuscript boxes. These papers consist of select records of the Ob”edinenie chinov Kornilovskogo udarnogo polka, the Union of Kornilov Shock Regiment Veterans, one of the units of the White Army during the Russian Civil War. The records relate to the fate of the regiment’s members in the emigration, dating from 1921 to 1980, and relating to their presence in Bulgaria, Serbia, France, Belgium and other European countries. Included among the documents are correspondence, financial records, membership lists, orders, photographs, and reports. • Petr Nikolaevich Krasnov (1869-1947)

  Papers, 1884-1973. 5 manuscript boxes. These papers reflect the literary activities of General Petr Nikolaevich Krasnov, Don Cossack Ataman, writer and historian. Most of his writings in emigration focus on the events leading up to the Russian revolution, as well as on the revolution and its aftermath themselves. Krasnov also focused on the history of the Don Cossacks. His writings have been published in translation in English, German and other languages. This collection consists of detailed correspondence mainly related to his writings and personal matters, and also reviews of his published works. The SPEECHES AND WRITINGS FILE consists mainly of correspondence related to and reviews of his writings.

• Raissa G. Zemmering

  Papers, 1933-1957. 1 manuscript box (1.6 linear feet). These papers consist primarily of letters and postcards from Ivan Sergeevich Shmelev to Raissa Gavriilovna Zemmering. Most letters have been copied and typed by Raissa Zemmering after Shmelev’s death. Included are also five letters from different individuals addressed to Raissa Zemmering. • Reverend Stefan Liashevskii (1899-1986)

  Papers, 1935-1982. 3 manuscript boxes. These papers reflect the writings, papers and research interests of Stefan Liashevskii, a geologist in the USSR, archpriest of the Russian Orthodox Church, biblical scholar, and historian in emigration. Stefan Liashevskii had close relations with a number of Russian Orthodox hierarchs, which is reflected in his CORRESPONDENCE FILE. Among his correspondents were Patriarch Aleksii (Simanskii), Metropolitan Iosif (Chernov) and Metropolitan Nikolai (Eremin).
  
  The SPEECHES AND WRITINGS FILE includes several historical essays and articles dedicated to ecclesiastical figures known personally by Liashevskii in Russia and in emigration, such as Patriarch Tikhon (Belavin), Metropolitan Serafim (Lade), Hieromonk Sofronii (Sakharov) and others. • Russkaia sredniaia shkola v Parizhe

  Records, 1920-1968. 35 manuscript boxes, 1 oversize box (14.75 linear feet). These papers consist of the records of the Russkaia sredniaia shkola v Parizhe, the Russian Secondary school in Paris, which operated from 1920-1961, and graduated more than 1,200 students during that time. A major educational centre for children of Russian émigrés, the school was originally opened with the support of the Russian Consulate in 1920, and through the initiative of M. A. Maklakova and V. B. • Russkii Obshche-voinskii soiuz (ROVS) Records

  Papers, 1919-1986. 10 manuscript boxes, 8 index card boxes (7.5 linear feet). These records consist of select documents of the Russkii obshche-voinskii soiuz, (ROVS), the Russian All-Military Union. Formed by General Petr N. Vrangel’ in 1924, ROVS managed to preserve the military structure of the demilitarized White Army in exile, while integrating its members into civilian life. ROVS played an important role in redefining the White Army’s ideology, and provided essential support to its members in emigration. • Soiuz leib-gvardii tsarskosel’skikh strelkov

  Records, 1929-1938. 1 manuscript box (0.4 linear feet). These papers consist of select records of the Soiuz leib-gvardii tsarskosel’skikh strelkov, the veterans association of the Leib-gvardii 2-oi tsarskosel’skii strelkovyi polk, liquidated in 1918. These records relate to the fate of the regiment’s members in the emigration, dating from 1929 to 1938. Included among the documents are statutes, lists of members, and reports. • Suvorovskii kadetskii korpus

  Papers, 1899-1972. 6 manuscript boxes (2.5 linear feet). These papers consist of select records of the Suvorovskii kadetskii korpus (Suvorov cadet corps), located in Moscow, whose members were active in emigration in its alumni association. The records relate to the history of the cadet corps as well as the fate of the corps’ alumni in the diaspora. Included among the documents are correspondence, memoirs, and photographs. Of special interest are records pertaining to the annual celebration of the corps’ feast day, October 14th. The rich collection of prints, dating from 1899-1964 and totaling five hundred and sixty nine provides a rich source of information, as most prints are described in detail. • Sviatoslav Varlaamovich Denisov (1878-1957)

  Papers, 1900-1966. 32 manuscript boxes, 1 oversize box, (13.6 linear feet). These papers contain the correspondence and writings of Sviatoslav V. Denisov, Major General of the Don Cossack Army and participant in the Don Cossack uprising of 1918. In emigration, Denisov was president of the Cossack Union in the United States, and an active member of various Cossack organizations, especially the All-Cossack Union. • Vasilii Ivanovich Alekseev (1906-2002)

  Papers, 1954-1967. 4 manuscript boxes (1.6 linear feet). These papers reflect the writings and research interests of Vasilii Ivanovich Alekseev, a historian, writer, and professor in emigration. Among his writings are works related to the Russian Orthodox Church in the Soviet Union under the German occupation. • Vladimir Konkordovich Abdank-Kossovski (1885-1962)

  Papers, 1916-1961. 60 manuscript boxes. These papers consist primarily of materials collected by Vladimir Konkordovich Abdank-Kossovskii for the exhibit “Zarubezhnaia Rus’,” which chronicled the fate and life of Russian émigrés beginning in 1916 up to 1961. Vladimir Konkordovich Abdank-Kossovskii was a graduate of the Lazarevskii institut vostochnykh iazykov, the Aleksandrovskoe voennoe uchilishche, the Ofitserskaia elektrotekhnicheskaia shkola, and the Istoriko-filologichskii fakul’tet Novorossiiskii University. • Vladimir Sergeevich Khitrovo (1891-1968)

  Papers, 1910-1967. 2 manuscript boxes (0.8 linear feet). These papers contain the correspondence and writings of Vladimir Sergeevich Khitrovo, a graduate of the Pazheskii korpus and participant of World War I and member of the White Army. In emigration, Khitrovo was active in the alumni association of the Pazheskii korpus, the Soiuz pazhei, which is reflected in a number of organizational files of this association, including bylaws, correspondence, and lists of members within the Subject file. Of particular interest is Khitrovo’s unpublished memoir of World War I, “Vospominaniia i materialy dlia istorii. Leib-gvardii konnaia artilleriia. Chast’ II-aia. Voina 1914-1917. • Vladislav Al’bionovich Maevskii (1893-1975)

  Papers, 1869-1978. 50 manuscript boxes, 4 oversize box (23 linear feet). These papers reflect the writings and research interests of Vladislav Al’bionovich Maevskii, church historian and theologian. Among his writings are works relating to late 19th and early 20th century history of the Eastern Orthodox Church, especially relating to Russian Orthodoxy, Mount Athos, and the Orthodox Church in the United States.
  
  In emigration, Maevskii attended Belgrade University’s theological faculty, and served as secretary to Patriarch Varnava (Rosich), and librarian of the Patriarchal library. As a result, Maevskii’s scholarly activities included numerous topics relating to the Serbian Orthodox Church.
  
  After arriving in the United States, Vladislav Maevskii became a member of the faculty of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA. This appointment allowed Maevskii to focus on the history as well as contemporary issues of the Orthodox Church in the United States.
  
  The correspondence file represents Maevskii’s close contact with ecclesiastical figures, academicians, scholars, and representatives of the Russian émigré intelligentsia.
  
  Maevskii’s speeches and writings focus largely on his major research interests, and include drafts, notes, and typescripts of both published and unpublished works. Aside from topics relating to Church history, included are works on Rasputin, Russian and Serbian relations, and general topics relating to Russian history and Orthodox theology.
