Includes an original signed letter, Paris, 20 September 1791, from Louis XVI of France to Catherine II of Russia, in Latin but addressed in French (plus a copy, handwritten), 1 f. The letter, nearly half of which consists of the honorific salutation and titles of the empress, concerns the French National Convention's representation of the will of the people, Louis's assent to the Convention, his assurance to Catherine that French developments will not affect the friendly relations between them, etc. Unpublished finding aid (NUCMC 61–514).
