Finding Aids

The Archives of Labor History and Urban Affairs at Wayne State University was established in 1959, and has become one of the world's largest labor collections. Among the collections at the repository are the records of the United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW), including the papers of Walter P. Reuther and other union presidents. Reuther visited Russia 1933–35, working many months at the Gorkii plant. (NUCMC 66–1520 and 77–1339, in part).

A number of other labor unions and organizations have preserved their records at this depository as well. At present there is identifiable Russianor Soviet-related material in several of these collections, including those of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) (NUCMC 77–1313) and of the Jewish Labor Committee (NUCMC 72–833).
