• The archive of the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) receives, processes, and distributes machinereadable data on social phenomena for over 130 countries. Among its records pertaining to Russia/USSR are the following:

• Barry Hughes and P. Terrence Hopmann. "Dyadic and Multilateral Events, 1948-1970"

  (ICPSR 5403). Data on 10,000 dyadic and multilateral events involving NATO and Warsaw Treaty nations as well as People's Republic of China, Sweden, North Vietnam, Yugoslavia, North Korea, Mongolia, and Austria. Only actions are included, not purely verbal events such as speeches and resolutions. Events are coded with the Moses/Brody conflict-cooperation scale. The source of the data is Keesing's Contemporary Archive.

• Edward E. Azar and Thomas J. Sloan. "Dimensions of Interaction, 1948-1973"

  (ICPSR 7426). 4 data files. These data files are event summaries derived from the Conflict and Peace Data Bank (COPDAB) Project. Russia is one of the countries included in the study.

• Franz Mogdis and Karen Tidwell. "Asia and Major Powers Dyadic Interactions, 1956-1968"

  (ICPSR 5406). 442 card-images. This study contains data for 221 nation-dyads; 17 Asian nations, 5 major powers (United States, Soviet Union, China, United Kingdom, France) at 13 time points. There are 20 variables of positive and negative interaction measures. Each dyad is coded for each year.

• Franz Mogdis and Karen Tidwell. "Sino-Soviet Interaction: Project Triad, 1950-1967"

  (ICPSR 5016). This study consists of an aggregate data set and a perception-interaction data set. The first part of the aggregate data contains 7 measures of economic, demographic, military, and diplomatic national attributes of the Soviet Union and People's Republic of China by year 1950–57. The second part contains data on the trade of and visits by leaders of the USSR and China with 17 less developed countries by year 1959–67. The perception data set consists of information obtained by computer content analysis utilizing Inquirer II. Selected official statements and newspaper content were analyzed for the period 1950–67. Soviet and Chinese perceptions of each other and of the United States are coded as follows: strong, weak, active, passive, negative, and threatening. Each of these perceptions is presented in the original and weighted forms. The interaction part contains measures of Sino-Soviet diplomat communications and trade interactions by year 1950–67. The latter was supplied by the Social Sciences Department, Bendix Corporation.

• Milton Lodge. "Soviet Elites in the Post-Stalin Period, 1966"

  (ICPSR 7521). The data were collected in 1966 to facilitate the exploration of relationships between the demographic and career pattern attributes of the Soviet leadership and attitudinal variance within the leadership. 2 types of data were included in the study: attitudinal and demographic/career pattern data. The attitudinal data were generated by a content analysis of a sample of articles in "representative" Soviet periodicals for the year 1965. A total of 411 cases was obtained. Demographic and career pattern data were collected to supplement the information on the Soviet officials in the attitudinal sample. There were 268 completed cases for these data. The data were received from the Laboratory for Political Research, University of Iowa.

• Nazli Choucri and Robert C. North. "Nations in Conflict: Data on National Growth and International Violence for Six European Major Powers, 1870-1914"

  (ICPSR 7425). The data were compiled as part of the investigators' study dealing with the dynamics of conflict and warfare and the role of national growth and expansion in that process. The annual aggregate data compiled for the period 1870–1914 on Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, and Austria-Hungary are in 8 categories: national size, colonial size, economic and productivity profile, commercial activity, government budget, alliances, violence, and conflicts of interest.

• Raymond E. Wolfinger et al. "America's Radical Right, 1962"

  (ICPSR 7273). These data report the attitudes, political behavior, and demographic characteristics of 307 people, out of approximately 2,000 who attended and supported the "San Francisco Bay Region School of Anti-Communism" held by the Christian Anti-Communist Crusade in Oakland, California, from 29 January-2 February 1962. Information was collected by personal interviews (94) and mail questionnaires (214).

• Richard Cady, Franz Mogdis, and Karen Tidwell. "Major Power Interactions with Less-Developed Countries, 1959-1965"

  (ICPSR 5005). Data for 89 less-developed countries on 56 variables recorded for 1959, 1961, 1963, and 1965. Variables include such measures as imports and exports, diplomatic representation, visits, communication rates, and proportions of imports from and exports to the major powers. These data were supplied by the Social Science Department, Bendix Corporation. The data set contains selected interactions of the United States, the Soviet Union, the People's Republic of China, and Eastern European countries with the less-developed nations.

• United States Information Agency. "World Survey II: Attitudes Toward Domestic and Foreign Affairs, 1964"

  (ICPSR 7048). Information for the study was obtained from 466 respondents, 2 cards of data per respondent, in the form of approximately 80 variables. Data for the study were collected in February and March 1964 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The sample consists of persons aged 18+ and explores the respondents' attitudes to such areas as Brazil's stand in the conflict between communist and anti-communist ideologies, and the economic influence of the United States and the Soviet Union on Brazil. Variables concerned with issues and affairs at the international level examine the respondents' comparisons of the achievements and foreign policy of the United States and the Soviet Union, as well as their opinions about the nuclear test ban and disarmament, attitudes toward Fidel Castro and his impact on life in Cuba, the position of the United Nations, and the treatment of blacks in France, U.S., Russia, and South Africa. The data were received from the International Data Library and Reference Service, Survey Research Center, University of California at Berkeley.

• Walter C. Clemens, Jr. "Prospects for Peace, 1973-1977"

  (ICPSR 5803). A survey of expert opinion on the prospects for peace, 1972–77, using 151 respondents drawn mainly from leading American university centers of international studies, although some U.S. government officials and non-U.S. scholars are also represented. The survey was conducted in early 1973, largely by mail, with a response rate of approximately 1 in 3. A series of 121 questions were asked concerning the likelihood of war and peace in different parts of the world; viability of 1972 SALT accords and prospects for other arms control measures; alternate scenarios for U.S.-Soviet relations; ranking of the forces most dangerous and conducive to international peace and economic development; likely linkages between trade and political relations among the great powers; expected role of the UN and other international institutions.
