The Maryland diocesan include papers on relations of the Episcopal Church with the Russian Orthodox Church in the 19th c., primarily between 1840 and 1878. Principal holdings concern the Russo-Greek Committee of the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, 1863–76, including correspondence of the Rev. Charles Reuben Hale (later bishop of Springfield) and the Rt. Rev. John Freeman Young (bishop of Florida) on efforts for cooperation or union between the churches and also their relations with the old Catholic churches of Europe. There are a few minor references to Russian activities in Turkey and elsewhere during the last century. Inquiries may be directed to Mr. F. Garner Ranney, historiographer of the diocese of Maryland, at the above address.
