Daniel Coit Gilman (1831-1908)
Papers, 1868–1907, 21,000 items. First president of Johns Hopkins, 1875–1901, and diplomat. He was attache at the U.S. legation in Russia, late March-early July 1854. Ca. 24 letters to his family are from St. Petersburg; also, notes, some official documents, and passports relate to his Russian service, 3 folders. List of correspondents (NUCMC 60–2472).
Isaiah Bowman (1878-1950)
Papers, ca. 1918–47, ca. 4 filing cabinets. President of Johns Hopkins, 1935–48, and government official in both world wars. He kept a folder on Russia for the years 1943–45, when he was a special adviser to the secretary of state. Restriction: requires permission of the librarian to see.
